Air India Fined ₹96,000 for Flight Cancellation

Air India Fined ₹96,000 for Flight Cancellation

Six passengers booked a flight with Air India from Bhopal to Srinagar.

On the day of travel, Air India cancelled the flight just two hours before departure due to a bird strike.

The passengers had already made extensive reservations in Kashmir, including hotels, a houseboat, and local transport.

They also had pre-booked onward travel from Srinagar to Delhi and then to Bhopal.

The passengers filed a complaint with the Bhopal District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, seeking compensation for the inconvenience and financial loss.

Air India argued that they complied with DGCA rules by offering seats on the next day's flight and declined to compensate for consequential losses.

The commission ruled in favor of the passengers, ordering Air India to pay each passenger ₹16,000, totaling ₹96,000.

This ruling sets a precedent for airlines to compensate passengers for extra losses caused by late cancellations.
