Hyderabad Students Research Reveals Shrinking Lakes
Two students from Hyderabad studied 30 historic water bodies in the city and found that many lakes are shrinking and the channels connecting them are broken.
This weakens the city's old water system and can cause more flooding.
They presented their research at a big event and received a certificate.
Their study also looked at how some parts of the water system are being fixed.
Scientists and other experts liked their work.
Two Class IX students from Hyderabad studied 30 historic water bodies and found shrinking lakes and broken connecting channels.
Their research, presented at a BRICS event, highlighted the impact on Hyderabad's water security.
The students used tools like Epicollect5, Google Earth Pro, and QGIS for their study.
They received guidance from HYDRAA and accessed HMDA maps for their research.
The study also recorded restoration efforts by HYDRAA to revive lakes and connecting channels.

Urban Development
Water Security
Lake Shrinkage
Urban Development
Urban development has led to the reduction in size of several lakes in Hyderabad.
Water Security
Shrinking lakes threaten the city's water security and increase the risk of urban flash floods.
Disrupted Channels
Urban Development
Urban infrastructure has disrupted the channels that once connected the lakes.
Water Security
Disrupted channels weaken the hydrological network, affecting water flow and security.
Restoration Efforts
Urban Development
Urban development projects often prioritize infrastructure over water bodies.
Water Security
Restoration efforts by HYDRAA aim to revive lakes and connecting channels to protect water security.
