Assam Flood Traps Dairy Family as Villages Disappear

Assam Flood Traps Dairy Family as Villages Disappear

A very large flood hit Nepali Khuti, a dairy-farming village in Assam.

The village’s cows provided people with their livelihoods, while goats served as backup support.

On 19 July, the water rose as high as people’s necks.

Krishna Prasad Sharma was away delivering milk when his wife and two sons became trapped.

None of them could swim.

Neighbors used a bamboo pole to break through a small opening in the house.

They pulled the family onto the roof for safety.

The family stayed there while the flood covered the village.
