West Bengal CM Threatens Protest Over Voter List Removal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has warned that she will protest by sitting on a dharna if any eligible voter’s name is removed from the voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
The state is currently reviewing its electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
Mamata Banerjee has expressed strong distrust in the Election Commission’s update of the voter list, saying the officials are biased and come from Delhi with a BJP agenda.
The Election Commission has extended the deadline for publishing the final updated voter list in West Bengal to February 14, 2026.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has extended the deadline for submitting SIR forms to December 26, 2025, and the draft electoral rolls will be published on December 31, 2025.
The final electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh will be published on February 28, 2026.
The Election Commission has also extended the timelines for the SIR process in six other states and Union Territories.
