IISER Pune Launches VOICE Fellowship for Journalists
The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune started a special training program called the VOICE Fellowship for journalists.
This five-day program is about teaching journalists how to communicate important topics like climate change, the environment, and public health.
The first day had a science exhibition and a discussion with experts.
They talked about why it's important for scientists to explain their work to the public and how journalists can make these topics easier to understand.
Over 40 journalists from all over India are part of this first group.
The goal is to help journalists share important information with everyone in a clear and engaging way.
The inaugural VOICE Fellowship for journalists began at IISER Pune, focusing on climate, environment, and public health communication.
The first session, 'Drawn to Discovery: Alternative Media Where Art Meets Science,' featured a science exhibition and a panel discussion with experts.
Professor Saurja DasGupta emphasized the importance of science communication to inform taxpayers about the value of basic science research.
Argha Manna highlighted the need for inclusive reporting, using local experiences to explain scientific issues like climate change.
The fellowship aims to strengthen informed public discourse, with over 40 grassroots journalists participating in the first cohort.
