Aanand L Rai Faces Rs 84 Crore Lawsuit Over Raanjhanaa Copyright Infringement
Eros International Media Ltd has sued filmmaker Aanand L Rai and others for Rs 84 crore, claiming that his new movie, Tere Ishq Mein, used parts of the older movie Raanjhanaa without permission.
Eros says that Tere Ishq Mein's teaser and marketing suggested it was a sequel to Raanjhanaa, which they own the rights to.
They allege that characters and story elements were copied, making people think the new movie was connected to the old one.
Aanand L Rai says these legal issues are common in the film business and he is letting his lawyers handle it.
The case is now in the Bombay High Court.
Eros International Media Ltd has filed an Rs 84 crore lawsuit against Aanand L Rai and others over alleged copyright infringement in Tere Ishq Mein.
Eros claims Tere Ishq Mein's teaser and marketing used Raanjhanaa's intellectual property without permission, suggesting a creative link between the two films.
Key points of contention include character similarities and the impression of Tere Ishq Mein being a 'spiritual sequel' to Raanjhanaa.
Aanand L Rai has downplayed the lawsuit, stating that such disputes are common in the film industry and that he is letting his legal team handle the matter.
The case is currently before the Bombay High Court and involves multiple defendants, including Colour Yellow Media Entertainment LLP, writer Himanshu Sharma, T-Series, and Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP.
