Three Indian-origin MPs in Andy Burnham's Cabinet

Three Indian-origin MPs in Andy Burnham's Cabinet

Andy Burnham, the UK Prime Minister, has appointed three Indian-origin MPs to important roles in his new Cabinet.

Kanishka Narayan, who was born in Bihar and moved to Cardiff as a child, is now the Minister for Artificial Intelligence.

Satvir Kaur, whose parents are from Punjab, is the Minister for Equalities.

Harpreet Uppal is an Assistant Whip, and Lisa Nandy, whose father is from Kolkata, remains the Culture Secretary.

Uma Kumaran, a Hindu MP of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, has also been appointed as a junior minister at the Foreign Office.

This reshuffle increases the presence of Indian-origin lawmakers in the government, but it has also seen some familiar faces return to the backbenches.
