Army Chief Reviews Kishtwar Terror Operation
The Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, visited Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir to check on the efforts to catch four Pakistani terrorists.
These terrorists have been hiding in the mountains and have been involved in fights with the army since January 18.
The army has been trying to catch them, but the terrorists escaped twice before.
The army commander praised the soldiers for their hard work.
The army also suspended mobile internet in some areas to prevent the terrorists from using it.
This is part of a bigger effort called 'Operation TRASHI-1' to make the area safer.
The army is working with other security forces to find and stop the terrorists.
Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the counter-terrorism grid in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, amid an ongoing operation against four Pakistani terrorists, possibly including top terrorist Saifullah.
The operation, which began on January 18, has seen multiple encounters, with the terrorists escaping twice despite the army's efforts, and a recent gunfight resulting in injuries to three security personnel and one terrorist.
Lt Gen Sharma interacted with ground commanders and troops, commending their resolve and professionalism, and chaired a joint security review meeting to assess the evolving security dynamics in the region.
Mobile internet services were temporarily suspended in a 6 km radius to prevent misuse by anti-national elements, and the army has launched 'Operation TRASHI-1' to flush out terrorists from the mountain areas of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur, and Kathua districts.
The ongoing operation is part of a broader crackdown on Pakistan-based terrorists operating in the region, which has seen six encounters in the past seven months, with one soldier killed and seven injured in earlier encounters.
