Bajaj Warns of Indian EV Halt If China Restricts Magnet Exports
Imagine electric cars are like toys that need special magnets to run.
A big part of where these magnets come from is China.
If China stops selling these magnets, the companies in India that make electric cars might have to stop making them too!
The boss of Bajaj Auto, a big company, said this could happen really fast, maybe in just a few weeks.
He also said that even things that usually go smoothly, like selling motorcycles, can get interrupted by unexpected problems, like changes in trade rules.
Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, expressed concern over potential China restrictions on rare earth magnet exports.
Heavy rare earth magnets are critical components in EV motors.
The majority of the global supply chain for these magnets is based in China.
Bajaj stated that the Indian EV industry could halt in weeks if exports are stopped.
Bajaj Auto faced sudden export disruptions of motorcycles to the US market.
