Mumbai Metro Flooding Caused by Intense Rainfall, High Tide
A new subway station in Mumbai flooded because of heavy rain and high tide that caused water to enter.
The intense rainfall filled up the drains, which caused water to flow back into the station under construction.
The subway company says it was an unusual event and is building a protective wall to stop this from happening again.
Trains are running normally on most parts of the line, but the flooded station is temporarily closed.
Acharya Atre Chowk station flooded due to intense rainfall and high tide.
90mm of rain in 90 minutes overwhelmed the stormwater drain system.
An under-construction entry point caused water back-charging and accumulation.
MMRC is constructing a permanent protection wall to prevent future flooding.
Train services continue on the operational corridor, excluding Acharya Atre Chowk.
