Non-Fiction Book Sales Decline Sharply
Non-fiction book sales have dropped a lot, almost 8.4% in the last year.
This is much more than the drop in fiction book sales.
The biggest drop was in food and drink books, which fell by a quarter.
Some types of books, like religion and humor, did better, but most types of non-fiction books sold less.
People are buying more crime novels and science fiction instead.
Some think this is because the world is tiring and people want to escape.
Others think publishers are not taking risks and are choosing books based on the author's followers instead of good ideas.
Also, there is a lot of free information online, so people might not want to buy books as much.
But some self-help books are still doing well.
Non-fiction book sales have declined by 8.4% in volume, nearly double the dip in fiction paperback sales.
The food and drink category saw the biggest drop, with sales plummeting by 25%.
Biographies and autobiographies saw a 2% boost in sales, but with significant disparities between top-selling titles.
Religion, humor, and trivia/puzzle categories saw growth, with trivia and puzzles up by 12.6%.
Readers are turning to escapism, preferring crime novels and science fiction over non-fiction.
