OpenAI Launches GPT-5.2 Amid AI Competition
OpenAI has launched a new version of its AI model called GPT-5.2.
This update comes after a recent 'code red' announcement by Sam Altman, which was due to the tough competition with Google's Gemini 3.
OpenAI says GPT-5.2 is better at doing things like making spreadsheets, creating presentations, writing code, understanding pictures, and handling long and complicated tasks.
They also mentioned that it's not just a response to Gemini 3, but a step forward in making their AI more useful for professionals.
The new model is designed to save users even more time than the previous version, GPT-5.1.
Disney is investing $1 billion in OpenAI and will let the startup use characters from Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel franchises in its Sora AI video generator.
GPT-5.2 has three variants: Instant, Thinking, and Pro, each designed for different needs.
The model has shown significant improvements in areas like mathematics, coding, and understanding scientific papers.
OpenAI is also planning to launch an 'adult mode' in early 2026, which will have features specifically for verified adult users.
OpenAI released GPT-5.2, its latest AI model, aimed at professional knowledge work and advanced reasoning.
The update follows a 'Code Red' declaration by Sam Altman due to competition with Google's Gemini 3.
GPT-5.2 is designed to be more efficient than GPT-5.1, saving users up to 10 hours a week.
Key improvements include better spreadsheet creation, presentation making, coding, image understanding, and handling complex tasks.
OpenAI executives clarified that GPT-5.2 is not a direct response to Gemini 3, but a step forward in AI capabilities.
