Eight Elephants Killed in Train Collision in Assam
On a foggy night in December, eight elephants were sadly killed when they collided with a fast train in Assam, India.
This happened in an area where elephants often move around, even though it's not an official elephant path.
The train was going very fast and couldn't stop in time.
No people were hurt, but the train was damaged.
The government is now looking into how to stop this from happening again.
They are talking about using special systems to warn trains when elephants are nearby.
Some people say the trains should go slower in areas where elephants are often seen.
Eight elephants, including three adults and five calves, were killed in a collision with the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express in Assam on December 20.
The incident occurred near the villages of Sangjurai and Patiapam, around 126 km from Guwahati.
The impact derailed five bogies of the train, but no human injuries were reported.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered a thorough enquiry into the incident.
The area is known for elephant movement, and villagers claim elephants frequently visit from nearby reserve forests to graze on paddy.
