Nepali Congress rebel faction holds special convention
A group within the Nepali Congress party, called the rebel faction, is having a special meeting called a Special General Convention.
They want to make plans for the upcoming election in March.
Around 2,500 members are attending this meeting, even though the party president, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and his team don't agree with it.
The rebel faction wants to make the party more democratic and address the concerns of young people, called Gen Z, who have been protesting against corruption.
The meeting is also expected to put pressure on Deuba to pass the leadership to a new generation.
The elections were announced after the previous prime minister, K P Sharma Oli, resigned due to protests.
Rebel faction of Nepali Congress holds Special General Convention in Kathmandu on January 11-12.
Around 2,500 of the 4,400 general convention delegates are participating, despite objections from party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The convention aims to address demands of Gen Z youths and revamp party organisation before the March 5 general election.
Deuba's faction wanted to hold the regular 15th general convention in May after the election.
The meeting is expected to exert pressure on Deuba to hand over party leadership to the new generation.
