Pimpri-Chinchwad Agencies Report Divergent Traffic Enforcement Figures During Drives
Two government teams in Pimpri-Chinchwad reported very different numbers of traffic violations.
The RTO checked vehicles during a special 15-day campaign.
It found 395 vehicles breaking rules and collected ₹8.09 lakh.
The Traffic Police worked throughout most of the year.
They recorded more than 572,000 vehicle violations and collected ₹63.78 crore.
The biggest differences involved dark window films and fancy number plates.
The teams do not work in exactly the same places or use the same methods.
Officials from both agencies said drivers should follow the rules and avoid illegal vehicle changes.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO booked 395 vehicles during a September 1–15 special drive and recovered ₹8.09 lakh.
The Traffic Police booked 5,72,018 vehicles from January 1 to September 16 and collected ₹63.78 crore.
For the same period, the RTO recorded 16 tinted-film cases and 59 fancy-plate cases, compared with 1,605 and 3,130 respectively by the Traffic Police.
The RTO drive also targeted missing High-Security Registration Plates and violations by private travel and luxury buses.
The agencies said their different jurisdictions, mandates, legal powers and enforcement systems mean the figures should not be treated as a direct performance comparison.

Different mandates explain the gap
Comparable violations raise questions
Meaning of the overall figures
Different mandates explain the gap
The RTO says its 15-day campaign had a limited focus, while the Traffic Police conducted broader daily enforcement over nearly eight and a half months.
Comparable violations raise questions
The large difference remains notable because both agencies reported cases involving similar violations, including tinted films and fancy number plates.
Whether enforcement performance can be compared
Different mandates explain the gap
The figures should not be treated as a direct performance comparison because the agencies have different jurisdictions, legal powers, manpower and operational methods.
Comparable violations raise questions
The same-period differences provide a basis to examine how each agency identifies and acts against these violations.
