Government to Raise Asset Monetisation Target
The Indian government is planning to increase its target for monetising public sector assets to Rs 11 lakh crore for the years 2026 to 2030.
This is higher than the previous target of Rs 10 lakh crore.
The goal is to make better use of existing infrastructure like roads, railways, power, and ports by leasing them out instead of selling them.
This will help the government get money without borrowing, reduce fiscal pressure, and improve infrastructure efficiency.
Highways are expected to contribute the most, followed by railways, power, and ports.
The first phase of this plan, from 2022 to 2025, achieved Rs 5.3 lakh crore out of the Rs 6 lakh crore target.
