Centre Proposes Measures to Boost Totapuri Mango Prices
The Indian government is trying to help mango farmers in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh because the prices of Totapuri mangoes have dropped a lot.
They had a meeting and came up with some ideas to fix this problem.
One idea is to make sure that mango drinks have more real mango pulp, which would help farmers get better prices.
They also want to improve the places where mangoes are processed and make sure farmers can sell their mangoes more easily.
Some farmers think the government's plan came too late to help them this season, but the government is working on long-term solutions to make things better in the future.
The Centre proposed measures to address the sharp fall in Totapuri mango prices in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Key measures include mandating higher fruit pulp content in mango-based beverages and improving processing infrastructure.
A high-level meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed recommendations from an expert committee.
The committee recommended creating a Central Coordination and Price Stabilisation Committee to assess crop estimates and market trends.
Farmers suggested open market operations through the cooperative sector for immediate relief.
