UGC Directs Institutions to Strictly Implement Anti-Ragging Rules

UGC Directs Institutions to Strictly Implement Anti-Ragging Rules

The University Grants Commission, which is the group that looks after colleges and universities in India, has sent a message to all schools of higher learning.

It tells them to be very serious about stopping ragging, which is when older students tease or bully new students.

The UGC says there should be no tolerance for ragging at all.

Colleges need to set up special groups to watch out for ragging and make sure they work well.

They also have to put up posters and show a special phone number that students can call for help at any time, day or night.

Students and their parents have to promise, through a special website, that they will not take part in ragging.

Colleges should also teach students about why ragging is wrong and help them feel safe.

If someone is found to be ragging, the college must report it to the police right away.

This is all to make campuses safe and friendly for everyone.
