Nepal Flood Tragedy Overshadows Nepalganj Road–Bahraich Rail Section Launch

Nepal Flood Tragedy Overshadows Nepalganj Road–Bahraich Rail Section Launch

India opened an upgraded railway line connecting Bahraich with Nepalganj Road.

The line was changed from metre gauge to broad gauge and electrified.

This means it can connect more easily with India’s wider railway network.

Four trains are expected to run on the route.

The opening ceremony was deliberately quiet because severe floods had caused deaths and destruction in Nepal.

People at the event observed two minutes of silence for the victims.

Railway officials said they were helping rescued people near the border reach their destinations.

One quoted official referred to the inaugurated train as operating on the Nepalganj Road–Varanasi City section, while the reports otherwise described the project as the Nepalganj Road–Bahraich section.
