Indian Airlines Expand Fleets and Battle for Mumbai-Delhi Route

Last year, Indian airlines added 35 new planes to their fleets.

They started with 79 new planes but returned 44 because their leases ended.

IndiGo added the most, with 22 new planes, followed by Air India Express and Akasa Air.

This year, they plan to add even more planes.

Boeing is making more of its 737 Max planes, which will help.

Akasa Air expects to have 45 planes by the end of this year.

Air India is also getting new wide-body planes and upgrading their cabins.

IndiGo, which had some problems last month with many flights canceled, is also planning to grow by adding new planes and expanding its routes.

The Mumbai-Delhi route was the eighth busiest in the world in 2025, with Air India group overtaking IndiGo to control the largest seat capacity.

The intense competition has led to a 7% drop in airfares on this route.
