Bajaj Auto CEO Shares Adaptation Lessons at Mahindra University
Rajiv Bajaj, the boss of a big bike and car company, talked to students at Mahindra University.
He said that when he hired a Japanese expert, he learned that managers should help people improve instead of doing everything themselves.
He also told a story about his dad asking the company to sell more bikes abroad, which made them focus on a few good models.
Because of that, the company now sells half its products in 108 countries and is the biggest maker of electric cars in India.
He also mentioned that new computer tools called AI will change jobs but also create new chances for people who keep learning.
Rajiv Bajaj delivered a convocation address at Mahindra University on August 2, 2026.
He highlighted lessons from hiring TPM guru Sueo Yamaguchi, stressing that managers should create environments for improvement.
Bajaj recounted his father's export challenge, noting that focusing product lines helped the company achieve 50% export revenue across 108 countries.
He announced Bajaj Auto’s status as India’s largest electric vehicle producer by volume, with EVs making up 30% of domestic sales.
The address also touched on the role of AI, with UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla warning that AI will transform work but also expand opportunities.
