Patna HC Directs NMC to Fill Vacant Doctor Posts
The Patna High Court has told the National Medical Commission (NMC) to fill up many empty doctor jobs in Bihar quickly.
The court noticed that there are not enough doctors and staff in Bihar's medical colleges and hospitals.
The court also said that making doctors work too many hours without a break is not good.
Even though the court did not agree with the doctors' complaints about a new attendance system using Aadhaar, it still wants the NMC to make sure there are enough doctors.
The court gave the NMC six months to start hiring more doctors.
Patna High Court directed the National Medical Commission (NMC) to fill vacant doctor posts in Bihar within a time-bound period.
The court noted the dilapidated health of health departments in Bihar and the inadequate number of faculty members in state-run and government-aided medical colleges.
The petitions challenging the Aadhaar-linked biometric system for attendance were dismissed, but the court acknowledged the issue of overburdened faculty members.
The court observed that securing attendance of faculty members will not improve the health departments unless vacancies are filled.
The NMC was directed to initiate an appointment/recruitment drive to fill the vacant posts, with a copy of the order sent to the NMC secretary for implementation within six months.
