India to receive $3.5 bn in retail investments
India is expected to receive $3.5 billion in retail investments over the next three years.
This is happening because while malls in the US are closing down, India's malls are doing very well.
Many foreign brands are entering India and want to expand.
India has a lot of people but not enough shopping spaces, which makes it a good place for investors.
Indian malls are also different because they focus on fun activities like dining and entertainment, which makes them popular.
Unlike in the US and China, online shopping is not as big in India, so physical stores are still very important.
India is projected to receive $3.5 billion in retail investments over the next three years.
Over 88 foreign brands have entered the Indian retail market, with more seeking space in Grade-A malls.
India has over 600 operational malls, but less than 100 meet institutional benchmarks for global funds.
Indian malls are lifestyle destinations with high footfalls and a resilient retail mix, immune to online retail disruptions.
India's e-commerce penetration is around 8%, much lower than the 20%+ levels in China and the US, making physical retail relevant.
