India and Pakistan Trade Protests Over Punjab Border Deaths

India and Pakistan Trade Protests Over Punjab Border Deaths

Two people died near the border between India and Pakistan in Punjab.

India said three people crossed into India and kept moving toward a fence after soldiers warned them to turn back.

India said its soldiers fired because they believed there was an immediate danger.

Pakistan said the two people who died were unarmed civilians and that the shooting was unprovoked.

The two countries disagree about what happened.

Each country called in the other country’s diplomat to protest.

Pakistan asked for an investigation and action against anyone found responsible.

India urged Pakistan to stop unauthorized crossings and investigate alleged smuggling.
