VHP Kerala Proposes Caste-Free Marriages, Temple Entry Reforms

VHP Kerala Proposes Caste-Free Marriages, Temple Entry Reforms

The Vishva Hindu Parishad, or VHP, is suggesting several changes for Hindu families in Kerala.

It says caste rules can make it hard for some young people to find marriage partners.

It also says horoscope matching can cause families to reject otherwise suitable matches.

The VHP wants to create a free marriage website or app that focuses more on education, work, income and similar backgrounds.

It is not saying that astrology must disappear, but that horoscopes should not decide everything.

The group also wants men to be allowed to keep their shirts on in temples.

It plans to offer counselling before marriage and encourage less expensive weddings.

The VHP says these ideas respond to social and demographic concerns among Kerala’s Hindus.
