Groups urge one-month extension for electoral-roll document submissions

Groups urge one-month extension for electoral-roll document submissions

A group met in Vijayawada to discuss checking India’s voter lists.

They asked the Election Commission to give some voters one extra month, until September 30, to provide documents.

They said many people are finding it difficult to prove that they should remain registered.

They worry that some eligible voters might be removed by mistake.

The group wants election officials and party representatives to check information by visiting homes.

They also want old, duplicate, deceased and permanently moved voters removed from the lists.

People who are 18 or older should get help registering to vote.

The group plans to send these suggestions to the Election Commission.
