Bangladesh Political Parties Reject Election Extension, Demand December Vote
In Bangladesh, a bunch of political parties are arguing about when to hold the next election.
They don't like the plan of the chief advisor, Muhammad Yunus, who wants to wait a while.
Most of the parties, like the BNP, want the election to happen by December.
They feel like the election is already late and should happen soon.
But a few parties, including some who were against the old government, are okay with waiting longer, until sometime in 2025 or 2026.
The leaders are talking about it, hoping to agree on a plan.
It's important because they want to make sure everyone agrees and that the election is fair for the whole country.
At least 20 political parties rejected Muhammad Yunus's extended timeframe for elections.
These parties, including BNP, demand elections be held by December.
Three political parties support Yunus's timeframe of holding the poll between Dec 2025 and June 2026.
The meeting was the second round of talks between political parties and the Yunus-led interim government.
Yunus is hoping to finalize the July Charter, an agreement after the ouster of the Hasina government.
