Madanapalle Kidney Case: DMHO Suspended Over Inquiry Lapses
A hospital in a town called Madanapalle did something very wrong.
Doctors there performed a kidney transplant without getting the required permission.
A young woman named Yamuna died after the surgery.
Police found that brokers had reportedly offered her money to give away her kidney.
At first, a health officer said the hospital had not committed a crime.
But later, a bigger investigation found that a racket was involved.
The hospital was sealed during the investigation, then a court allowed it to open again.
The government said the health officer did not tell the court all the important facts.
The health officer was suspended from his job, and disciplinary action was ordered.
Several other people were arrested.
Annamayya district medical officer Dr K Lakshminarasayya was suspended and disciplinary proceedings ordered over lapses in the initial inquiry into the Madanapalle illegal kidney transplant case.
The initial inspection report found no evidence of a criminal offence, but the later investigation revealed an unauthorised kidney transplant and the involvement of a racket.
The case came to light in November 2025 after 29-year-old S Yamuna of Visakhapatnam died following a kidney transplant at Global Multi Specialty Hospital.
A Bengaluru medical team allegedly performed the transplant without required authorisation, in violation of the Human Organ Transplantation Act, after brokers reportedly offered Yamuna ₹8 lakh.
Several people, including DCHS Dr K Anjaneyulu, were arrested; the hospital was sealed during the investigation and later reopened following a high court order.
