Centre Seeks Supreme Court Clarity on OBC CSE 2025 Rules

Centre Seeks Supreme Court Clarity on OBC CSE 2025 Rules

The Supreme Court is being asked to explain how a new rule about OBC reservations should affect the 2025 civil services exam.

The Court’s March 2026 decision said salary alone should not decide whether someone belongs to the OBC creamy layer.

The government says the exam results had already been announced when that decision was made.

It worries that changing the results now could affect many candidates.

Changes could also affect training, jobs, seniority, and pay.

Some candidates say their OBC claims were wrongly rejected because their parents worked in private companies or public-sector undertakings.

They believe this treated similar families differently.

The Court will consider these issues through a Special Bench.

A major question is whether the new ruling should apply to an examination process that was nearly finished.
