CWMA Orders 3,500 Cusecs Water to Tamil Nadu for 15 Days
The Cauvery River supplies water to both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
A group called the CWRC said Karnataka should give 3,500 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu each day for 15 days.
The CWMA, the authority that manages the river, agreed.
Karnataka is upset because it needs water for its farmers and is in a drought.
The state will meet on August 2 to decide what to do next.
Some people in Karnataka protested, tearing posters of a Tamil Nadu film and asking for more water.
The government says it will follow the CWRC decision, but farmers want more water.
CWMA upheld CWRC recommendation to release 3,500 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.
The order is effective retrospectively from July 29, 2024.
Tamil Nadu had requested 7,000 cusecs, but the CWMA rejected that and endorsed 3,500 cusecs.
Karnataka will decide its next steps at an all‑party meeting on August 2 called by CM D K Shivakumar.
Activists in Mandya protested, tearing posters of Tamil Nadu CM C Joseph Vijay’s film and demanding a halt to the water release.
