Allahabad HC Questions UP Government's Denial of Teacher Contract Renewal
A teacher named Archana Boodh worked at a girls' school in India for 16 years without ever becoming a permanent employee.
Her job was renewed again and again, but this time the government did not renew her contract.
She went to a big court to ask for help.
The court said teachers are like 'builders of the nation' and should not be left without work.
The court asked the government to explain why her contract was stopped.
It also said she can keep working until the next court meeting.
The teacher is about 39 years old and worried she may be too old to apply for new teaching jobs.
The court wants to think about many other teachers who have worked for over 15 years on contracts.
The next hearing will happen on September 8.
The Allahabad High Court questioned the Uttar Pradesh government over its refusal to renew the contract of teacher Archana Boodh after 16 years of service.
Boodh had worked at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls School in Amethi on a contractual basis since January 16, 2010, with periodic renewals.
Her contract was not renewed through an order dated June 16, and the court allowed her to continue working on a contractual basis till the next hearing.
The court noted that while three teachers had been transferred from schools following disciplinary issues involving students, there was no personal allegation against the petitioner.
The court directed the government to file counter-affidavits, including a personal affidavit from the additional chief secretary of basic education, and listed the matter for September 8.
