Pune's Mula-Mutha River Pollution Control Project Nears Completion
Pune is working on a big project to clean up the Mula-Mutha river.
They are building 11 sewage treatment plants (STPs) to make sure dirty water doesn't go into the river.
Three of these plants are almost done and will start testing with real sewage soon.
The project is being funded by the central government and the Pune city government.
Once all the plants are working, they will be able to clean a lot more dirty water, which will help keep the river cleaner.
The project started in 2016 and is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2026.
Three major STPs (Mundhwa, Warje, Wadgaon) under the PARMM project are nearing completion in Pune.
The project involves constructing 11 STPs and missing sewer links to prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the Mula-Mutha river.
The near-complete STPs have a combined capacity of 74 MLD, and wet testing using actual sewage will begin shortly.
The project is funded by the central government (85%) and the Pune Municipal Corporation (15%), with a total cost of around ₹1,173 crore.
Once fully commissioned, Pune's total sewage treatment capacity will rise to 895 MLD, significantly improving river pollution control efforts.
