Infosys and GHCL announce share buybacks
Two big companies, Infosys and GHCL, are offering to buy back their shares from shareholders.
Infosys is offering to buy back shares worth Rs 18,000 crore at a 16% premium, while GHCL is offering Rs 300 crore at a 14% premium.
This means shareholders can sell their shares back to the company for a higher price than they are currently worth.
However, there are some things to consider.
The money you get from the buyback is taxed as a dividend, so you won't get the full amount.
Also, once your shares are bought back, you won't get any future dividends or bonuses on those shares.
So, it's important to think carefully before deciding to sell your shares back to the company.
Infosys and GHCL announced share buyback offers on November 14.
Infosys is offering a 16% premium on its current share price for a buyback worth Rs 18,000 crore.
GHCL is offering a 14% premium for a buyback worth Rs 300 crore.
Buybacks can increase earnings per share and reduce the number of shares available for trading.
The proceeds from buybacks are taxed as dividends at 10%, reducing the actual amount received by shareholders.
