AIADMK Opposes TVK Delimitation Resolution, Backs Women's Reservation

AIADMK Opposes TVK Delimitation Resolution, Backs Women's Reservation

In India, a state called Tamil Nadu has its own government and also sends members to the national Parliament.

Two political groups there are the AIADMK and the TVK.

The TVK brought a proposal, called a resolution, to the Assembly about delimitation.

Delimitation decides how many seats a state gets in the national Parliament.

The AIADMK said no to this proposal.

Its leader, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, said the TVK moved it for political reasons.

But the AIADMK did like one part: giving 33 per cent of seats to women.

The AIADMK also believes Tamil Nadu should keep its seats and get more, because it controlled its population growth.

They say if Tamil Nadu keeps its 7.18 per cent share, it could gain about 20 more national seats.
