Haryana's Rs 5,700 Crore 'Water Secure Haryana' Program Aims to Achieve State-Wide Water Security
Haryana is launching a big plan called 'Water Secure Haryana' to make sure everyone has enough water.
It costs a lot of money, and the World Bank is helping with a big part of it.
This plan will take six years, starting in 2026.
They want to make the state's water systems much better by using smart technology and checking how well things are working.
This means fixing old canals, building new places to store water, cleaning dirty water so it can be used for farms, and helping farmers use water more wisely.
Some parts of the state will get these upgrades directly, but the planning will help all of Haryana.
The goal is to be the first state in India that has very secure water for all its needs by 2032.
Haryana is launching the 'Water Secure Haryana' program, a Rs 5,700 crore initiative supported by the World Bank with $500 million (Rs 4,000 crore).
The six-year program, starting in 2026, aims to modernize irrigation and water management using data and performance metrics.
Interventions will focus on 14 irrigation clusters across 18 districts, upgrading canals, rejuvenating water bodies, and reusing treated wastewater.
Key components include infrastructure modernization, micro-irrigation systems, sustainable agriculture promotion, and drainage solutions.
The program aims to make Haryana India's first truly water-secure state by 2032 through integrated, data-driven, and community-led approaches.
