Sand contractors extort consumers in Telangana
In Telangana, India, some sand contractors are making customers pay extra money for sand.
Normally, a truckload of sand costs Rs 14,000, but these contractors are asking for an additional Rs 5,000-6,000.
This is happening in several districts where the government has sand quarries.
The contractors say they are doing this because the government hasn't paid them.
Customers are upset and want the government to stop this from happening.
More than 400 trucks carry sand every day from one area alone.
Some people pretending to be from the Forest Department are also collecting extra money.
The government body in charge, TGMDC, hasn't done much to stop this.
Sand contractors in Telangana are extorting consumers by demanding extra money for sand loads.
Consumers are being forced to pay an additional Rs 5,000-6,000 per load, on top of the official price of Rs 14,000.
This practice is prevalent in several districts, including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Badradri-Kothagudem, Mancherial, and Bhupalpally.
