Election Commission Extends Maharashtra Voter Roll Deadline
The Election Commission in India has given more time to finish checking and updating the voter lists in Maharashtra.
They needed more time because of heavy rains and slow progress in updating the lists.
The new deadline for finishing this work is August 8.
The list of voters will be shown to the public on August 17, and people can make changes or objections until September 16.
The final list will be ready on October 19.
In some places, like Yavatmal and Ratnagiri, they have done a good job updating the lists, but in cities like Mumbai, they are behind.
This is part of a big project to update voter lists in many states.
The Election Commission extended the enumeration deadline for Maharashtra's voter roll revision to August 8 due to heavy rainfall and low digitisation rates.
The draft voter list will now be published on August 17, with claims and objections accepted until September 16.
The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on October 19.
As of the extension, only 35.1% of enumeration forms in Maharashtra had been digitised, with Mumbai and its suburbs lagging behind.
Yavatmal and Ratnagiri districts had the highest digitisation rates at 67.6% and 65.9%, respectively.
