BJP to go alone in Hyderabad civic polls: Ramchander Rao
A political party in India called the BJP wants to win city elections in Hyderabad, a big city in the state of Telangana.
The party's Telangana leader, N Ramchander Rao, told reporters that the BJP will fight the upcoming civic polls by itself, without joining other parties.
He made the announcement in Delhi after a meeting with the party's national president, Nitin Nabin.
The national president said that fighting for people's issues is the real way forward for the party.
Rao said the party has been growing stronger, winning eight seats in the 2023 state assembly elections.
In the 2024 national elections, the BJP won eight of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana.
The party also hopes to win two upcoming elections for the legislative council.
Earlier this year, the city government split the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation into three bodies: Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri.
Elections for these three civic bodies are expected to be held later this year.
The BJP plans to reach voters through 'padayatras' and 'bus yatras', which are walking and bus tours.

Rao spoke to reporters in Delhi after a meeting chaired by the party's national president Nitin Nabin, who said struggles on people's issues are the real roadmap for BJP.
Rao expressed confidence that the BJP would assume power in Telangana after the next assembly elections in 2028.
The BJP won eight seats in Telangana's 119 assembly segments in the 2023 polls and eight of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 elections.
The GHMC was reorganised into three municipal corporations - Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri - with elections expected later this year.
