Mumbai Faces Water Cuts and Metro Delays

Mumbai Faces Water Cuts and Metro Delays

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has announced that the Uran area in Navi Mumbai will face water shortages twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

This is because the Ransai Dam, which supplies water to the area, has low water levels.

The dam wasted a lot of water during the monsoon season.

Uran needs about 41 million litres of water every day, but MIDC can only supply 30 million litres.

To make sure there is enough water until June 2026, authorities have decided to reduce the water supply on these two days.

This is a conservation measure to ensure water availability for the future.

Additionally, Mumbai will face a 24-hour water cut today as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertakes major water channel connectivity work across three wards.

The shutdown will remain in place from 9 am on December 12 until 9 am on December 13, impacting thousands of households and commercial establishments.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 will operate on a revised schedule on Friday, December 12, with services beginning at 7:00 am instead of the usual 6:00 am.

The one-hour delay has been announced to facilitate a critical system inspection linked to the upcoming expansion of the metro network.

The expansion will connect Andheri East directly to Mira Bhayandar, a long-demanded link expected to significantly ease congestion on the western suburban road network.

Once fully operational, the new corridor is poised to offer a faster and more reliable commute for thousands of daily passengers.
