Nigeria Seeks French Help for Northern Insecurity
Nigeria is having a lot of trouble with violence in the north.
The president, Bola Tinubu, asked France for help.
France's president, Emmanuel Macron, said they will support Nigeria.
The U.S. has also talked about helping, but Nigeria wants to make sure its independence is respected.
There have been many attacks recently, including kidnappings and attacks on a church.
Nigeria is dealing with different groups causing trouble, and it's hard for their security forces to handle everything.
France, the U.S., and other countries have helped before, and France is going to keep helping.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu sought more help from France to combat widespread violence in the north.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the request and expressed France's support in a phone call with Tinubu.
Nigeria is facing multiple security challenges, including an Islamist insurgency, armed kidnapping gangs, and clashes between herders and farmers.
The U.S. has considered actions such as sanctions and Pentagon engagement to compel Nigeria to better protect its Christian communities.
The Nigerian government welcomes international help as long as its sovereignty is respected.
