Farmers prepare week-long Chandigarh-Mohali protest amid permission uncertainty
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, a group of farmer organisations, plans to protest for one week.
The protest is scheduled from September 1 through September 7.
Farmers are expected to travel to Chandigarh and Mohali using tractors, trucks, trains and buses.
They will bring food and other supplies with them.
The group says the main protest site will be in Sector 48-C, near the road toward Tribune Chowk.
It has also planned routes and parking areas for arriving vehicles.
Officials have not clearly confirmed whether formal permission has been granted for the entire road stretch.
The farmers want guaranteed prices for crops and changes involving Punjab’s river waters.
They are also demanding loan waivers, higher sugarcane prices and the withdrawal of certain proposed laws.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha plans a week-long dharna from September 1 to 7.
The SKM says the approved protest site is in Sector 48-C along the road toward Tribune Chowk.
