Pakistan's UNSC Roles: No Direct Threat to India
Pakistan has taken on important roles in two UN committees related to counter-terrorism and sanctions.
Since Pakistan is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, it was likely to get these positions.
These roles don't give Pakistan much power to directly harm India's interests.
While Pakistan can propose agendas and monitor sanctions, it cannot unilaterally change sanctions.
India, which previously held similar positions, need not worry about these appointments.
Pakistan secured key roles in two UNSC subsidiary bodies.
Pakistan is Chair of the 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee and Vice Chair of the 1373 Counter-Terrorism Committee.
India previously held chairmanships of similar committees during its last UNSC membership.
Pakistan's roles are procedurally inevitable as a non-permanent member.
Pakistan's influence is limited, posing no direct diplomatic threat to India.
