NHAI Drops Mandatory KYV for Private FASTags from 2026

NHAI Drops Mandatory KYV for Private FASTags from 2026

The NHAI has announced that starting from February 1, 2026, private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans will no longer need to go through the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process when getting a new FASTag.

This means that all the checks will be done before the tag is activated, so users can start using it right away without any further verification.

The banks will now handle the verification using the VAHAN database.

The KYV process will only be needed in special cases, like if the tag is linked to the wrong vehicle or if there is suspected misuse.

This change is expected to make toll payments faster and reduce the time spent at toll plazas.

However, commercial vehicles like buses and trucks will still need to go through the KYV process.
