India Prepares for Digital 2027 Census
India is preparing for a big count of all its people called the 2027 Census.
This will be the first time they use phones and computers to collect information.
The count will happen in two parts: first, they will list all the houses from April to September 2026, and then they will ask people to fill in their details online.
After that, workers will visit homes to check the information.
This is important because it helps the government make better rules and give help to people who need it.
It will also decide how many seats each state gets in the big decision-making group.
Some states are worried because they think the count might give more power to states with more people.
This census is important because it will give a clear picture of India's people and help make fair decisions.
India's 2027 Census will start on 1 April 2026 and be the first digital census using mobile apps.
It will collect data on housing, religion, language, literacy, business activity, migration, and fertility.
The census will digitally capture caste data for the first time since 1931.
Data from the census will determine the delimitation of Lok Sabha and state legislative assembly seats.
Southern states oppose the census, arguing it will penalize states that controlled population growth.
