US-Backed Venezuela Oil Revamp Aids India
Venezuela has a lot of oil, and India used to buy a lot from them.
But because of problems and rules, India hasn't been able to get oil or money owed to them for a long time.
Now, the US has taken control of Venezuela's oil and might help India get their money back.
India has some oil fields in Venezuela, and if things get better, they might be able to start producing oil again and get the money they're owed.
This could also help India get more oil in the future.
US-backed restructuring of Venezuela's oil sector could help India recover nearly $1 billion in long-pending dues.
ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) operates the San Cristobal oilfield (40% stake) and has stakes in the Carabobo-1 block with other Indian firms.
San Cristobal's production has dropped to 5,000–10,000 bpd due to sanctions; potential to reach 80,000–1,00,000 bpd with investment.
India's peak Venezuelan crude imports were 4,00,000 bpd; current trade is minimal due to US sanctions.
US military action captured Venezuelan President Maduro, potentially leading to sanctions relief and operational changes.
