HDFC Bank Shares Slide Amid Leadership Turmoil and Bagchi Appointment

HDFC Bank’s share price had a difficult year in 2026.

The trouble began when chairman Atanu Chakraborty unexpectedly resigned in March.

Investors worried about the bank’s leadership and governance, so the shares fell sharply.

The Reserve Bank of India said it found no material problems with the bank’s governance, conduct or financial soundness.

Legal reviews commissioned by the bank also said Chakraborty’s operational allegations were not supported by their findings.

Later, the planned departure of CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan created more uncertainty.

Investors were also concerned about deposits, profit margins and challenges after the bank’s merger.

HDFC Bank appointed Anup Bagchi as its next MD and CEO, giving investors a new leadership focus.

The bank must now try to rebuild confidence and improve its performance.
