Dharavi Project Phase 1: 10,000 Flats Slated For Completion in 3 Years
Imagine a big project to rebuild Dharavi, a very crowded part of Mumbai.
The first step is to build 10,000 new homes on land near the railway.
These homes will be in tall buildings and should be ready in about three years.
People who live closest to where the new buildings are being built will get to move in first.
If you don't qualify for a free home, the plan also includes rental options.
The main goal is to improve the area and make it easier for people to get around.
The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) is building 10,000 flats in the first phase.
These flats, up to 30 stories high, are being constructed on railway land in Mahim.
The flats are expected to be ready within the next three years.
Residents in Sector 1, closest to the railway land, will be given priority for the new 350 sq ft flats.
Rental housing is planned for those not eligible for free housing within Dharavi.
