Rare-Intensity Tornado Injures Dozens in Southwestern France Village

A powerful tornado hit a village in southwestern France on Monday.

The village is called Pomas, in the Aude region.

Many buildings were damaged, and more than 300 homes were affected.

Thirty-nine people were injured, including two who were in critical condition.

No one was reported missing.

The storm also knocked out electricity for about 21,000 homes.

Videos showed the tornado near Verzeille during a very strong supercell thunderstorm.

The articles say it formed during that storm, but they do not give more detailed scientific reasons for its formation.
