US Secures American Citizen’s Release During Myanmar Meetings

A US team traveled to Naypyitaw, Myanmar, during the week of September 15.

The team met with officials there.

During those meetings, detained American citizen Adam Castillo was released.

Officials did not explain why he had been detained.

They also did not say how long he had been held.

The United States said it uses direct talks to protect American interests.

It also asked Myanmar authorities to stop violence and allow help to reach people.

The US further called for the release of political prisoners, but no response from Myanmar officials was provided.
