Delhi Plan Proposes Pedestrian-First Streets and Shopping Areas

Delhi Plan Proposes Pedestrian-First Streets and Shopping Areas

Delhi has made a long-term city plan for the year 2047.

It suggests changing very narrow roads into places mainly for people to walk and shop.

These roads are six metres wide or less.

The goal is to make walking and shopping safer and more comfortable.

On very wide roads, the plan also suggests separate areas for walkers and cyclists.

This would apply to roads at least 45 metres wide when possible.

The plan was notified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

It is intended to improve space for people who walk or use non-motorised transport.
